Can someone please tell me what went down in our fandom?

I came across this http://superspn.livejournal.com/ and it says sth in the lines of 

"There's been a ridiculous amount of wank for what is generally a really friendly and awesome fandom recently. So let's remind people why we all love this fandom." etc

Now I have read through some of the responses, and I still don't get what has happened. (but yeah, i DO love the fandom for reasons several people mentioned).

So please? Enlighten me?

There has been a LOT of Dean vs. Sam debates, and in recent weeks, they've just gotten nasty. This is in a nutshell, and of course there are loads of mature, really great people who aren't a part of it. But the worst edges follow this pattern: Dean!girls are saying that there boy is being written as nothing but a German shepard, and that selfish Sammy has SUPER-SPECIAL-POWERS that are stealing the show. Sam!girls are saying that the show has been fellatio-ing Dean all season with the angst, and that Dean steals the show, and that Sam is a SAINT WHO CAN DO NO WRONG AND IT'S ALL DEAN'S FAULT WAH.

That's what I gather. I try to keep out of it - I love both boys. And their father. Hummina hummina. Check out keepaofthecheez for her awesome rant against the Boy Wars.

*facepalm* Oh god I can't believe people are actually doing that. As if being a Samgirl means you can't like Dean or sth. JEEZ.
