I've had a day which isn't of the shiny. It's not the no-visibility-when-driving rain, and it's not the PMS. I found out some family stuff about some students I can't get into right now, because it just makes me so mad. So. freaking. MAD. And I don't get why kids have to be condemned and will be stigmatized for shit their idiotic parents pulled. *deep breath. exhale. deep breath. exhale* I can calm down. I totally can. I can. I can. YES.

MANKIND IS PISSING THE FUCK OUT OF ME TODAY.

Some shiny and of the good then:

Thank you, love. It's just... argh. They're kids for fuck's sake. Wee ones. Most aren't older than 12.

*rumages in bag* Uzi? Voodoo doll? Grenade? Baseball bat? *rumages again and pulls out a half eaten snickers* euw...so not mine....*rumages again*...great big fuck off kick up the arse?

Help yourself...though knowing some parents, an atomic bomb could hit them and they still wouldn't get it....

Must be so frustrating, honey. My mom taught 6th grade (about the same age kids as it sounds like yours are) for over thirty years and unfortunately I think she remembered the ones she couldn't help a lot more than the ones for whom she made a difference. Because you usually don't hear when things are good. Mom passed away in June and I can't even tell you how many of her former students told me what a positive effect she had on their lives. I just wish they'd told her that.

I don't know what kind of classroom you run, but I think the fact that you care says it all. You're doing all you can, and you're doing good. *hugs*

I got a lot of classes for 3 hours per week (i'm the english as second language teacher) so my time is limited, but even with 3 hours there can be a difference, esp with painfully shy kids or 'weak' kids. I mean, come on, it's the sick that need a doctor, not the healthy ones, to use an analogy, so i tend to pay way more attention to them. A wink, a smile, a pat on the head, and i can SEE how that adds a bounce to their step. And for a lot of them i don't know the backstory, i just know something doesn't click, so i always check with the local teachers and when i finally get the scoop i'm like FUCK. And i wish i could do something more, you know? I don't care if they learn to speak English ( i do, but you'll see what i mean) but it's more important that they get they are alright. Different and equal and all that. And that they have some manners/ways of behaviour not because school says so but because it's the right thing. That their life won't be always about being kicked around and they don't always have to push back.

*gets off soapbox* Sorry. Shutting up. Man, i so get your mom. (and i'm sorry about her passing away).

*hugs*
